CJ Logistics to become AI logistics technology company

CJ Logistics

CJ Logistics has announced it plans to digitally transform its company into an integrated logistics technology service company that utilises artificial intelligence (AI) and big data.

The company hopes that its decision will lead innovation in the logistics market by adopting technologies based on robotics, AI, and big data.

The company’s main logistics warehouses will adopt around 170 automated guided vehicles and autonomous mobile robots to carry cargo, including pallets and individually boxed products. The company reported that the load-carrying robots will greatly reduce the time taken to carry cargo from racks inside the warehouse to loading bays and vice versa.

Piece picking systems, which are robots using vacuum suction fingers to pick up objects, will be deployed to warehouses in the hope of reducing human labour and safety accidents. The robot system picks up parcels and drops them onto a sorting conveyor belt. CJ Logistics stated that a picking system is currently being tested at a logistics warehouse in Deokpyeong, near Seoul.

CJ Logistics stated that it also hopes to become more environmentally friendly. In 2020, the company adopted eco-friendly cold storage containers and easy-packing delivery boxes. The company reported that its partner companies will also join the movement towards sustainability by adopting eco-friendly packages.
