Siemens announced that it has broken out its Logistics and Airport Solutions business as an independent company under the name Siemens Postal, Parcel & Airport Logistics GmbH. Siemens Postal, Parcel & Airport Logistics GmbH (SPPAL) goes into operation in Germany on June 1, 2015.
The business with mail, parcel and baggage handling systems, currently known in the market as Logistics and Airport Solutions, will continue as a new independent company under the Siemens umbrella. The carve-out in Germany has been undertaken as a step to ensure the company’s stability and that it retains for the long term its position as a provider of technology and solutions for logistics processes.
The company’s CEO, Michael Reichle said, “I am pleased that we now have the necessary flexibility to shape the future of the new Siemens Postal, Parcel & Airport Logistics GmbH. We are doing everything we can to seize opportunities in the fast growing parcel and airport markets. In doing so, our focus is always on maximizing customer benefit.”
As an independent company, SPPAL has been structured with the intention to be able to operate more quickly and efficiently in a competitive environment dominated by medium-sized companies.
SPPAL’s main customers include numerous large international airports as well as postal and parcel service providers worldwide. The company has been active in over 60 countries for many years now.
