Fonterra selects Damco as control tower for European export logistics

Fonterra, a dairy cooperative in New Zealand, announced that it has selected Damco for its European export control tower, acting as placement agent for bookings with Fonterra’s direct carrier contracts. The origin services, container haulage, documents and certificates for export orders will be handled by local Damco organizations throughout Europe.

Fonterra, which is owned by around 10,600 New Zealand farmers, is expanding its operations in Europe to meet the increasing global demand for quality whey and lactose ingredients, which are used in high value paediatric, maternal and sports nutrition products. The company is actively forging manufacturing partnerships across Europe to complement its New Zealand based dairy supply. It has recently commissioned a new manufacturing site in Heerenveen, the Netherlands, for the production of specialty whey and lactose ingredients.

Kevin Fogg, Sales Operations Manager, Fonterra Europe said, “Fonterra chose Damco because we wanted one trusted company, with the necessary local footprint and expertise, to manage all of our export logistics across Europe. The long standing relationship between our two companies in New Zealand was a significant factor in selecting Damco as our European control tower.”

“Fonterra has been a key account for Damco in New Zealand for many years,” said Peter Boltje, Damco Strategic Sales Director. Damco has been arranging all landside services for the dairy company in New Zealand and providing visibility on their global ocean shipments for some time.
