DSV has been selected to build and operate dairy producer Arla’s new logistics hub in northern Europe. This represents an extension to an existing agreement between DSV and Arla to provide logistics services to the dairy producer.
The new facility is expected to consist of a 10,000 sq m combined warehouse and cross-docking terminal at Heidenau, Germany. The facility is expected to be made up of an 800 sq m office for DSV and Arla staff, a 7,500 sq m chilled facility at 2-6 degrees Celsius, a 150 sq m chilled to 0-1 degrees Celsius facility with additional ventilation for special dairy products such as blue cheese, a 2,500 sq m ambient temperature facility for dairy products without cooling requirements, a 850 sq m mezzanine dedicated to value added services and 20 docks and parking facilities for 20 trucks with direct access to power supply for continued cooling. In addition, there is an option to extend the warehouse by 15,000 sq m.
The new hub is expected offer consolidated facilities to replace Arla’s exisiting set-up with pick-up and storage across 30 dairies in northern Europe. The building lease runs for a period of 10 years and DSV has entered in to a joint venture with Freo Logistics Properties to manage the build.
DSV operations at the new facility currently have a start date of 1 March 2016.
