Automar Logistics acquires 50% stake in BLG auto terminal at Port of Gioia Tauro

Grimaldi Group, through its associated company Automar Logistics, has taken a 50% stake at BLG Logistics’ automobile terminal at the Port of Gioia Tauro in Italy. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 320,000 sq m transhipment area for finished vehicles at Gioia Tauro is Italy’s largest automobile terminal. Automar Logistics, part-owned by Bertani, Elia Ambrosetti and Mercurio as well as Grimaldi, provides port-based pre-delivery inspection services and road transport for finished vehicles. The company already operates the vehicle terminal at Italy’s Port of Salerno and last year took over 400,000 sq m at the Port of Civitavecchia.

Michael Blach, Head of the Automobile division of BLG commented, “We’re certain of significant growth in automobile transhipment. The Mediterranean region is set to gain in importance as a hub. With the automobile shipping line Grimaldi at our side, we’ll substantially boost activity at the terminal in Gioia Tauro.”
