DHL Parcel UK has become the first customer at SEGRO Park Coventry after choosing the development as the location for a new UK logistics hub.
Alongside the pre-let deal, SEGRO plans to speculatively build two warehouses comprising 140,000 sq ft and 220,000 sq ft of space, to help meet market demand and capitalise on construction synergies and efficiencies.
DHL will occupy a 300,000 sq ft unit on a 25-year lease at the 200-acre industrial and logistics park in Warwick District, creating up to 600 jobs. Combined with the development of the two speculative units, it means one third of the 3.7m sq ft SEGRO Park Coventry development will be under construction ahead of completion of the infrastructure works next year. All three buildings are scheduled to be ready for occupation by summer 2023.
In line with the company’s Responsible SEGRO commitments, the three units will reportedly be developed to high sustainability standards, including targeting a ‘BREEAM Excellent’ rating. The overall development will also see the development of a 235-acre community park, which will offer footpaths, cycle routes and new woodlands and wetlands.
CEO of DHL Parcel UK Peter Fuller said: “The investment in our new hub is a central part of our growth strategy in the UK. The new facility will have the capacity to handle over 500k items per day. It has been designed to put us at the forefront of sustainable and digital logistics thanks to state-of-the-art mechanisation as well a range of industry-leading features to minimise its environmental impact such as solar panels and LGV electric charge points.”
SEGRO Park Conventry is located to the south of Coventry Airport and provides up to 3.7m sq ft of industrial and logistics space. According to SEGRO, the park has easy access to six motorways within 16 miles. These include the M6, M69, M42, M40, M45 and M1. Occupiers include Jaguar Land Rover, UK Battery Industrialisation Centre and Sytner Group.
