DPD Portugal has announced it will be delivering 100% of its orders in Lisbon with zero-emission vehicles and states it is the first express operator to do so, with the European Mobility Week marking the start of vehicle circulation in the capital.

55 Mercedes-Benz Vans 100% electric eSprinter vehicles are now stated to be circulating for the delivery of DPD parcels, representing a 87% reduction in current CO2 and 84% NOx emissions and avoiding close to 330 tonnes of polluting gases per year, according to the company.

For Olivier Establet, CEO of DPD, said “We are certain that we have marked an extremely important step in DPDgroup’s green strategy, once again showing the pioneering spirit we have had in our country in matters of sustainable development. After installing and offering, in 2019, an air quality measurement system to Lisboners that can be consulted upon receipt of their order, as well as, in 2020, two City trees that contributed to the cleaning of ambient air, the total decarbonization of our deliveries in the city of Lisbon is a giant step that fulfils our ambition of being the leader in sustainable deliveries on the ground. But we are not going to stop there, and we are also preparing the decarbonization of the city of Porto, among other measures to reduce the environmental impact in the delivery of orders that we will take care of in due course.”

DPDgroup said that the supply of these vehicles is made possible by the provision of Repsol charging bases at DPD’s premises in Lisbon, a solution that reflects the company’s multi-energy offer and the company’s vision of a Single Customer.

Mário Neves, Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz Vans Portugal, pointed out that “The availability of these 100% electric powered eSprinter vehicles reflects the global strategy of Mercedes-Benz in environmental sustainability without local emissions, with a special focus in the cities. The consolidation of the 100% electric vehicle range of Mercedes-Benz Vans will take place as early as 2022, with the launch of the eCitan, dedicated to the transport of goods and specially designed to meet the traffic requirements in urban centers, which combines a cargo space generous to the incorporation of state-of-the-art technology, in which advanced security and connectivity systems stand out.”
