DSV opens warehouse near Hamburg for Arla Foods

DSV has announced the opening of a 10,000 sq m warehouse near Hamburg, Germany, on behalf of client Arla Foods.

The new refrigerated warehouse, which was built in just six months, includes a cross-dock terminal and will be the hub for 30 of Arla Foods’ dairy production locations serving the northern and eastern regions of Germany as the company moves up to full working capacity by October 2016.

DSV built and runs the complex on behalf of Arla. The building has three different temperature zones and can accommodate very high throughput volumes at peak times. There are 7,500 sq m of refrigerated warehouse space kept between 2 and 6°C and 2,500 sq m at ambient temperature (up to 25°C). There is also space for post-ripening of cheese.

DSV’s 20 staff currently handle 400 pallets a day and once the facility is fully operational there will be 40 people handling an expected 1200 pallets – equivalent to 1.5m items entering and exiting every day.

Each of the 20 truck docks, as well as 20 other parking spaces on the site, is equipped with electrical power, reducing CO2 emissions and removing the need for trucks to keep their engines running in order to maintain correct temperatures whilst parked.
