Gebrüder Weiss has invested €6m in its Esslingen cargo handling terminal to improve network efficiency.
The facility, which reportedly meets high standards in terms of technology, security and environmental protection, was equipped with energy-efficient lighting and a CCTV system.
The Branch Manager of Gebrüder Weiss Esslingen said, “The new infrastructure will enable us to offer even faster lead times in cargo handling and to meet our customers’ demands for shorter transport times.”
Until the beginning of this year, the goods to be handled were distributed across several locations in the region. The current solution enables the logistics experts to cut about 30 regional truck runs per day. The facility offers services including general cargo transports throughout Europe but also increasingly toward Central Asia – along the former Silk Road.
The branch manager continued, “By concentrating on a single handling facility, we can continuously load directly from the collection truck to the long-distance truck. This makes the processes much faster and more efficient.”
