GLS (Italy) and Y3K, an Italian company involved in the rental of commercial vehicles, and one of GLS suppliers, have chosen the large electric vans eSprinter and the eVito for their distribution activities.
The vans are produced by Mercedes Benz. The company has invested around €350m in a new generation of eSprinter, with approximately €50m invested to adjust production in the three plants. Production will begin during the second half of 2023 in Charleston (South Carolina, USA) and then in Duesseldorf and Ludwigsfelde in Germany. The e-vans will be produced with zero emissions, in line with Mercedes Benz’s focus on sustainability.
The eSprinter is aimed at deliveries in large cities. Born in 2019, it lasts around 150 km with one charge, and it carries a maximum payload of 900 kg. The electric drive of the eSprinter delivers an output of 84 kW, like a basic diesel engine.
Dario Albano, Managing Director Mercedes-Benz Italia Vans, commented: “The eSprinter and the eVito show that a local zero-emission vehicle fleet is able to satisfy all the needs in terms of adaptability, daily use, reliability and profitability.”
Elisa Piazzola, Director Sales, Marketing & Franchisee Management at GLS, added: “Sustainability is one of the most important values of GLS which has set itself the long-term goal of eliminating emissions and environmental neutrality by 2045-2050.”
