Kuehne + Nagel has announced that it will support BMW Group’s complex parts supply chain by managing a new global distribution centre in Wallersdorf, Germany.
The distribution centre was inaugurated on October 11, 2016, and forms part of the BMW Group’s Central Distribution Centre (CDC). This consists of the distribution centre and the warehouse in Wallersdorf, the spare parts warehouse in Bruckberg, which is operated and managed by Kuehne + Nagel, and the “Dynamics Centre” in Dingolfing. From the CDC, the BMW Group supplies regional distribution centres around the world which in turn supply the local authorised repair shops. Kuehne + Nagel has been working on spare parts logistics for the BMW Group for over 10 years.
At the Wallersdorf centre, Kuehne + Nagel will be responsible for physically receiving and administering incoming goods, pre-packaging, administering packaging materials and empties and also for loading goods onto shuttles for shipping out to all field warehouses, external workshops and sites within the CDC network. Over 215,000 packaged spare parts will leave the distribution centre on average every day. Go-live is planned for December 2016. Kuehne + Nagel will employ around 450 people at the 35,000 sq m complex.
“Contract logistics for the automotive industry is globally a strategic focus area for Kuehne + Nagel. We offer our customers industry-specific solutions tailored to their requirements. Our portfolio covers all stages of the supply chain. We are delighted to be able to provide our competence in spare parts logistics to our longstanding customer BMW Group at another site,” said Gianfranco Sgro, member of the Management Board of Kuehne + Nagel International AG responsible for contract logistics.
