Global logistics giant UPS is doubling down on its commitment to the Asia Pacific region, announcing a series of strategic investments totalling over $250 million since early 2023. The centrepiece of this expansion is a new state-of-the-art hub at Clark Airport in the Philippines, set to revolutionise the company’s regional operations.
In a move that underscores the region’s growing importance in global trade, UPS has partnered with The Luzon International Premiere Airport Development Corporation (LIPAD) to significantly expand its presence at Clark Airport. This development is poised to enhance UPS’s ability to offer integrated express, supply chain, and healthcare logistics services across the Asia Pacific corridor.
Wilfredo Ramos, President of UPS Asia Pacific, emphasised the strategic importance of the region, stating, “Asia Pacific continues to be one of UPS’s fastest-growing regions. Our ongoing investments aim to maximise speed and flexibility, address shifting global trade lanes, and provide resilience for our customers.”
The Clark Airport expansion is just one piece of a larger puzzle. UPS has been systematically enhancing its network across the region, with recent improvements in Singapore, Japan, China, Vietnam, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. The company’s commitment to the area is further evidenced by plans for a cutting-edge facility in Hong Kong, slated to open by 2028.
UPS’s investment strategy extends beyond traditional logistics. Since 2022, the company has made significant strides in its Healthcare business, introducing UPS Premier—a service offering priority handling for critical medical products—across nine Asia Pacific markets. The logistics provider has also expanded its cold-chain capabilities, adding over 22,000 square meters of specialised handling, storage, and distribution space in Singapore and Australia in 2023, with an additional 12,000 square meters planned for 2024.
The new Clark hub, expected to be operational by late 2026, promises to be a game-changer for the region. LIPAD Chairperson Josephine Gotianun Yap highlighted the positive impact of UPS’s expansion, noting, “This partnership represents a significant milestone in developing Clark as an ideal logistics hub for global brands. It will bring positive changes to Pampanga, providing job opportunities and serving as an economic stimulus.”
