UPS has announced that it will invest over $400m in developing a 1.2m sq ft regional package sorting hub in Atlanta.
The facility will be the third largest of its kind in UPS’ US network and will have the capacity to process more than 100,000 packages per hour. The hub will also feature a delivery vehicle centre capable of dispatching more than 280 trucks for area delivery and pickup in addition to a customer centre for retail service.
The project is part of a multi-year UPS investment plan to modernise and expand the company’s global network, including several new facilities and the acquisition of new cargo aircraft.
The site is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2018.
